Hamma Hammami’s security must be ensured and Radia Nasravi’s hunger strike should be ended

Bodyguards of Hamma Hammami were removed by the Tunisian government. Hammami is
the spokesperson for the Peoples’ Front in Tunisia and he has been receiving death threats for
a long time. EMEP strongly condemns this decision by the Tunisian government. Tunisian
government will be responsible for any attack that may target Hammami.
Hammami is the spokesperson for the Peoples’ Front and the leader of Tunisian Workers’
Party. The decision to remove the police officers protecting his life is a political decision.
This decision is an attack on the democratic opposition because the leadership of the Peoples’
Front and Hammami are under threat from collaborators of imperialism.
Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi, founders and former spokespersons for Peoples’ Front,
were slaughtered by fascist militants. Perpetrators of these slaughters have not been caught
yet; rather governments have not wanted to catch them.
Hammami is the spokesperson for Peoples’ Front and Tunisian Workers’ Party. His party is
the party of the Tunisian workers and labourers. The Workers’ Party played a determining
role in the democratic Tunisian revolution. An attack on The Peoples’ Front and Hammami is
an attack on the democratic Tunisian revolution.
Removal of police protecting Hammami -whom is targeted by all reactionaries -means
portrayal of all gains of the Tunisian Revolution as a target for all counter-revolutionaries.
Democratic forces in Tunisa demand the securing of Hammami’s life. Radia Nasravi, the
partner of Hammami and a human rights lawyer, has been on hunger strike since 11 July,
demanding provision of security for Hammami.
A human rights delegation met with Tunisian President on 1 August and the Interior Minister
on 8 August to discuss protection for Hammami and an end to Nasravi’s hunger strike; the
meetings did not achieve a result.
We, EMEP, strongly condemn the decision by the Tunisian government. Tunisian
government will be responsible for any attack that may target Hammami. We call on all the
revolutionary parties and organisations of the world to defend and support Hammami. All
democratic forces must make attempts with the Tunisian government to protect Hammami.
Hamma Hammami’s security must be ensured and Radia Nasravi’s hunger strike should be
ended.
